March 3, 2003- Black
& White Descendants of the Underground Railroad will reunite
from all over North America
March 3, 2003 (Trenton,
NJ) Governor McGreevey issued a proclamation in support of
The National Underground Railroad Family Reunion Festival
to The William Still Underground Railroad Foundation. Governor
McGreevey walked with the historic Still Family in October
of last year as they joined Secretary of State Regena Thomas
during her venture of visiting Underground Railroad sites
throughout the State of New Jersey. The Still Family has been
recognized as one of the most prominent families on the East
Coast in part due to their significant heritage and historical
contribution throughout the State of New Jersey and the region.
William Still, an abolitionist and conductor was dubbed the
Father of the Underground Railroad for his role in working
with the Anti-Slavery Society in Philadelphia and for writing
the book, The Underground Railroad. The William Still Underground
Railroad Foundation continues to operate in the spirit of
freedom, by not only celebrating it, but also reunifying the
families who were a part of it. The National Underground Railroad
Family Reunion Festival is a first-time reunion for all of
the families who participated in the Underground Railroad.
The festival will take place on June 27-29 with venues both
in Camden, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. Invited are descendants
of enslaved persons, abolitionists, stationmasters, conductors,
and the general public. Included among the invitees will be
Quaker, Jewish as well as Native American families who participated
on the Underground Railroad. For more information about the
National Underground Railroad Family Reunion Festival, visit
