to baseball/softball in the Greater Cincinnati area as a means
of developing the character, life skills, academic excellence

character, athletic skills, and educational proficiency of young
boys and girls in underserved areas of Cincinnati, Ohio while
ultimately increasing their self-determination. The Foundation’s
Most Valuable Persons (MVP) Mid-City Project is modeled after
the only Major League Baseball (MLB) Urban Baseball Academy and
is designed to uphold Major League Baseball standards for
instruction, teaching and education in urban America through the
strength of the “National Pastime” and to enhance the quality of
life in the surrounding communities.
The MVP Mid-City Project
acknowledges that Baseball is truly "America's Game" and
participation can help to effectively develop character and is
critical for interpersonal development and success. Therefore,
the MVP Mid-City Project will work diligently and positively to
develop the following in the youth instructed: attitude,
integrity, respect, accountability, character, self discipline,
personal responsibility and teamwork.

Cincinnati Public Schools, the City of Cincinnati, Local
Initiative Support Corp (LISC), Community of Hartwell, Cal
Ripken Sr. Foundation and Ripken Management Design to

the State of Ohio and will garner unprecedented local, state,
and national attention and exposure. The MVP Mid-City
Project is located on a 7 acre site
adjacent to 3 newly-renovated baseball fields; the building will
comprise 27,000 square feet of functional space. The facility

One of the William Still
UGRR Foundation's programs, involves a
literacy initiative
entitled STILL Connected with Reading
. The program, which
was a yearlong initiative, not only teaches children about the
3 c's (courage,
commitment, and cooperation) but also exemplifies the
historical facts that if people in the 1800's taught
themselves to read, then surely people in this century can
accomplish these same goals. William Still, who was dubbed as
the Father of the Underground Rail Road, with only one year of
formal education during his life was a self-taught reader. He
went on to write one of the most prominent books of all time
"The
Underground Rail Road".
A
book entitled "Dear Friend"
by Judith Bentley, is
recommended by the foundation as an easy read for students who
want to learn more about the life of Thomas Garrett and
William Still both of whom are listed in history as some of
the major key role players of the Underground Rail Road.
The William Still Underground Railroad Foundation also
recommends reading
"Billy Boy: the Sunday
Soldier

Maine"
